At the 43rd Chicago TI International World Faire,
two awards were issued
The John Birdwell Award
The John Birdwell Award is selected by the John Birdwell Trustees on an annual basis, for lifetime achievements in the TI community. Although the Chicago Area TI User Group does not choose the winners, the Chicago Group presents the award because John Birdwell was a member of that user group.
The 2025 Award winner was presented to
Scott Adams
Scott Adams has been credited with starting the entire multi-billion dollar a year computer gaming industry. He wrote a series of Adventures for his company Adventure International from 1978 to about 1984. The series was written for the many different platforms of the day including the TI-99/4A in which the popular "Adventure Module" allowed you to load over a dozen different text adventures from either cassette of disk. Scott has always remained a friend and strong supporter of the TI community and has contributed videos and interviews for the TI Faire. Scott continues to produce exciting worlds of fiction which can be found at www.msadams.com - Congratulations!
Grant Schmalgemeier Award
The award is a memorial service award given by the Chicago TI-99/4A User's Group to individuals who have made significant contributions to the TI-99/4A community. Grant was enthusiastic supporter of the User Group and dedicated many years helping the group prosper and grow. Sadly Grant passed away in 1992 but he will never be forgotten to those who were so honored to have known him.
The 2025 Award winner was presented to
John Behnke
In our groups early years, John Behnke was a prolific game writer, former club librarian and columnist for the newsletter. Years later, he rejoined the group and restarted the groups newsletter as well as creating a new web page, assisting with the TI Faire and creating new games. He also talks too much *smiles*
(As webmaster of this page, I struggled with including this award here and describing why I received it. I felt, and still do, that this may lead people to think that I am somehow congratulating myself and I am a vain person. In the end I felt that this was legit news and excluding it would be wrong. In a small way, I am embarrassed but still deeply honored that the group presented this to me. The above text was not my words and I hope you don't misinterpret me including it here)
Next meeting: Saturday, December 6th at 1pm
