After 30-40 years, many of the original manuals for some of TI's popular game have been lost or if they are still available, are nothing but poor photo copies. While I understand that to some, having the original is part of collecting but what if there are few, if any, copies still left? In my spare time, I've started recreating the missing manual's and when possible, I've even upgraded them some. Below you will find some of the games, old and new, that I have completed and you may download. All of these games can be run on both the original TI consoles as well as emulated with Classic99. Classic 99 - Version 399.092

The premier Emulator for the Texas Instruments TI-99/4A Home Computer

This program attempts to reproduce, more or less accurately, the operation of the TI-99/4A Home Computer. Classic99 focuses on the TI-99/4 machines, and is capable of emulating all three versions of the console, The original TI-99/4, the upgraded TI-99/4A (Black & Silver) and the final version 2.2 (Gray)

Classic99 is written in C and C++ under Microsoft Visual C++, currently with Visual Studio 2022. It uses DirectX 8 interfaces and is capable of running on Windows 2000 through and including Windows 11. There are also reports that it works under Wine and Parallels, but these are not supported configurations.

B1 NUCLEAR BOMBER

Requires: Basic

B-1 Nuclear Bomber for the TI-99/4A simulates a manned bombing mission into the old Soviet Union. The player gives commands to the computer which ‘flies’ the bomber on its mission. The player must fly to within bombing range of the target to deliver the weapon. The B-1 is opposed by nuclear armed MIG’s and SAM’s of the Soviet air defense system. The aircraft is capable of defending itself with ECM (electronic counter measures), evasive action and nuclear tipped multi-purpose Phoenix missiles.

KHE SANH

Requires: Basic

KHE SAHN is a game about guerilla warfare in South Vietnam during the Tet offensive in 1968. The elusive North Vietnamese and Viet Cong units, unencumbered by the need to defend military bases, could remain hidden in the jungle until the time to attack was right. The American forces, on the other hand, could only conduct an often futile search for the guerillas to hopefully preempt these attacks. This giant lion baiting game ended in 1972 when the American forces with-drew. In this game the player is given five platoons of troops and four helicopters to search and destroy two companies of North Vietnamese regulars, controlled by the computer. The NVA are invisible. To win the player must accumulate more points than the computer.

LEGENDS

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

Legends is a four player fantasy role playing game. It was designed to create a complex world within the confines of your TI-99/4A and within the far less limited world of your imagination. As you progress in Legends the characters you create can also grow in strength and power. Their combat skills will improve and they will learn new spells to aid them in their quest. They can accumulate wealth in the form of potions, weapons and armor, gold and knowledge. Eventually, you will find the objects necessary to complete your quest and restore peace and harmony to a land which can surely use both. The world of Legends will most likely take dozens of sessions to explore just the island and dozens more for the six large, multi-level dungeons scattered around.

TOWER

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

TOWER presents a simulation of a Civilian Air Traffic Controller's duties at Washington’s National Airport on a dark, lowering night, visibility poor, ceiling 400 feet or less. Washington's major airport is regarded as one of the most dangerous in the country, because of its tight flight paths and stringent noise standards. Your screen becomes a CRT scanning the heavily populated Northern Virginia and D. C. area.

Suddenly the radio crackles: “Flight A requests immediate landing.” There’s the blip, coming in low over Rosslyn, a fluorescent cipher for hundreds of lives. Your duties as controller entail landing 5 planes and allowing 5 planes to takeoff. Can you bring them in safely?

SUPER WUMPUS

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

Outside a small village there was a large mountain with an abandoned gold mine. This mine attracted many who wished to seek out their fortune and soon the mine branched out into many shafts. As the tunnels and caverns grew deeper, many obstacles were uncovered such as giant bats, bottomless pits and even cave-ins. A creature, which was said to be the size of ten men, was found hibernating in a large cavern. In this lair were the bones of many creatures including men. You are charged with seeking out the Wumpus and once you have his location, you shoot an arrow from an adjacent cave and kill him. If you guess wrong, you can keep trying until you run out of water and the game ends. The Wumpus will growl when you get close letting you know you are near him. On some difficulty levels you will also see a blood stain on the floor. Can you kill the Wumpus before he eats you?

Master Thief of Chicago

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

A Master Thief has struck Chicago's Famous Museum Campus which is home to many of the cities famed museums, parks and numerous other landmarks. You, a freshly promoted member of the Chicago Police Department's Detective Division, are assigned your very first case which is to solve the crime and capture the Master Thief. The game is played on over 100 playing spaces and space will only allow you to move in logical directions. There are 50 locations that the thief can steal from and each game is randomized so both the thief and yourself start at different positions. Each time the thief moves, you will be given a clue as to his location. You are only given a limited amount of time to catch the thief before he gets away. This game was inspired by the popular electronic board game Stop Thief.

GALAXY LANDER

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

In Galaxy Lander, you take control over the landing portion and are able to pick your landing choice from the nine (or eight) planets and our moon. I’ve taken great liberties in recreating the planet surfaces and adjusting the gravity to make landings even possible. I’ve tried to keep the gravity as close to reality as possible but had to tweak the some to make a landing at least possible. It is a game, after all, and it’s supposed to be fun.

The game was inspired from the original Lunar Lander Arcade Game from 1979 published by Atari. The original game used Vector Graphics and when starting, you were shown a zoomed-out landscape that only zoomed in 1979 Lunar when you were close to landing. I could have done this with my crude version but felt it did not really add much to the game.

LEGENDS II

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

After fighting dark knights and evil monsters, vanquishing Ashtar Kreel and closing the Western Portal, going back to a life of trading lies in the Tall Tales Pub seemed very hard. Sure, you could have rested on your laurels and driven your future grandchildren crazy repeating the stories of your exploits over and over, but you felt too young to let moss grow over you yet.

Hearing of recent sightings by fisherman of a new land over the Eastern ocean, you and your comrades gathered arms and armor and charted a ship to sail you to the land over the horizon. After an arduous voyage (which you mainly spent guarding the railing against sea-monster attacks, or so you told the laughing sailors), land was finally sighted.

SPAD XIII

Requires: X-Basic, 32k, Joysticks (Assembly Game)

This game is the closest thing there is to a true flight simulator on the TI. You are a WWI French fighter plane pilot in 1918 about 20km east of the German front and your mission is to patrol the sky and destroy enemy planes including the dreaded Red Baron, observation balloons and airfield hangars while still managing to return and land safely on your airfield. The flight physics are very realistic and the scenery is 3D wire frame, making for a great and very challenging experience. An absolute must for any flight enthusiast!

The Spad XIII, an improved model of the earlier VII, was introduced in April 1917. It was a very stable plane with a more powerful engine and an extra Vickers machine gun. In the hands of the great aces of the time, it reversed the balance of air power once again and gave superiority to the Allies.

OMEGA RACE

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

To the Earthling: We, the leaders of the Omegan Star System, have spent countless eons perfecting our method of training our warriors to defend our star colonies. This method – you may call it Omega Race – has proven so successful that evildoers tremble at the mere thought of interfering with us. As a result, our lives have become rather mundane and boring. So now we search the galaxies for other forms of intelligent life – fast and tough enough to meet the challenge of our OMEGA RACE. Having failed to locate such life, we’re settling for you. We await you in the arena! - The Omegans

The object of OMEGA RACE is to evade enemy fire and score points by destroying the various types of Omegan War Ships and Photon Mines you’ll encounter while speeding around a mysterious cosmic arena.

CRAZY CLIMBER

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

The object o f Crazy Climber is to reach the top o f a nearly 200-story building. There are four buildings in total, each offering a variety of different challenges and obstacles that make the journey to the top more difficult.

The Dangers of Windows (opening and closing) - If an open window closes on both of Crazy Climber's hands, then he will lose his grip and fall. "Mad People" These bald-headed scoundrels open and close the windows and drop items. Their goal: knock down Crazy Climber. Falling Objects: If one of these hits Crazy Climber on the head and he is not holding onto a ledge with both hands, then he will fall and lose a "Life." If he is holding himself on two ledges, then he will only lose bonus points.

MOUSE TRAP

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

The player maneuvers a mouse throughout a maze and eat pieces of cheese scattered along the paths. Six cats patrol the maze and chase the player, with two present at the outset and four more being released one at a time. The maze has three sets of color-coded doors, which the player can open or close by pressing the corresponding buttons in order to block the cats' approach. The player can also escape the cats by entering the "IN" box at the center of the screen, which will teleport the mouse to one of the four corners at random. Contact between the mouse and a cat costs the player one life.

The player can pick up bones from the corners of the maze, then use them later by pressing a fourth button. Doing so turns the mouse into a dog for a short time, during which it can eat the cats for bonus points and temporarily remove them from the maze, but the cats will move at a faster speed when they re-spawn into the maze.

PITFALL!

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

Pitfall! is a platform game set in a jungle where the player controls Pitfall Harry, a fortune hunter and explorer. Similar to Atari Superman (1979) and Atari Adventure (1980), the game does not feature side-scrolling and instead loads one screen at a time, with a new screen appearing when the player character, Pitfall Harry, moves to the edge of the screen. The goal is to get Harry as many points as possible within a twenty-minute time limit. The player starts the game with 2,000 points and can collect a total of 32 treasures hidden among 255 scenes to increase their total, ranging from a money bag worth 2,000 points to a diamond ring worth 5,000 points.

Pitfall Harry moves left and right and can jump over and onto objects, swing from vines, and climb up and down ladders to seek treasure and avoid danger. The player can lose points from hazards, such as falling down a hole or colliding with rolling logs. The player starts with three lives and loses one if they sink into quicksand, swamps or tar pits, running into fire, or are hit by a scorpion, cobra rattler, or crocodile.

H.E.R.O.

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

H.E.R.O. (Helicopter Emergency Rescue Operation) is a video game published by Activision for the Atari 2600 in March 1984.

In Mount Leone, volcanic activity has trapped miners. This leads to Roderick Hero to traverse the mineshafts in order to rescue the workers. The player can set the difficulty through the game select switch with the higher numbers having the players start at later levels in the game. For example, Game number one starts at level one, and game 2 starts at level 5. If the player chooses game level 5, they start at level 17 with all the levels after being random.

The player controls Roderick. Roderick can fly up left or right and hover on the spot. He is equipped with a microlaser beam helmet which allows him to fight most enemies and destroy some walls. Roderick is equipped with six sticks of dynamite per level, which can destroy some walls. Additionally the fuse from lit dynamite will illuminate a dark screen until it detonates. Other hazards include lanterns that when touched will go out, causing the screen to go dark.

BORZORK

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

You just went to sleep at your house, but you feel something strange — and when you awake, you’ve been placed into a labyrinth filled with killer robots!!!

Fortunately someone left a laser pistol, and now you can defend yourself!!! But where are you going to run? This place looks endless… and the walls are electrified. Clear every chamber. Keep moving. Do not touch the walls. Do not let the robots corner you. And whatever you do — do not linger.

If you stay too long in a room, a friendly face will appear — with very evil intentions!!! It can kill you, but it also destroys robots in its path. Don’t try to stop it. It is immune to all of your attacks. Your only hope is to leave the room before it catches you. A clone of the popular Atari Video Game Berzerk!

MINESTORM

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

Tread lightly! The transport lanes of intergalactic space have been seeded with mines from an alien vessel. Use your mine destroying blaster to blow up the mines before they annihilate you! You may survive the floating mines, but beware of the fireball, magnetic, and treacherous fireball-magnetic mines.

The enemy mine layer will move through your galaxy and will seed the first mine field. Your ship will come into view once he disappears. Four large mines will suddenly become activated. Maneuver your ship within the galaxy in an effort to destroy the mines.

Once you make that part of the galaxy safe, you immediately travel to the next mine field. There are 13 different mine fields, each one becoming increasingly difficult.

Lady Bug

Requires: X-Basic, 32k

The goal of Lady Bug is to eat all flowers, hearts, and letters in the maze while avoiding other insects. The player is represented by a red, yellow, and green character resembling a ladybug and the enemy insects' appearance varies by level. The border of the maze acts as timer, with each circuit signaling the release of an enemy insect from the central area, up to generally a maximum of four. The speed of the circuit increases on stages 2 and 5.

There are eight different enemy insects, and a different one is introduced on each of the first eight levels. Beginning on level 9, each level has four different enemies.

Unlike Pac-Man, the player can alter the layout of the maze by shifting any of the twenty green gates. It is not possible to completely isolate a portion of the maze through gate-shifting.
